Why you will want to give up

Last updated on 2023.06.14

I will tell you why you will want to give up, so that you know what to do when it happens.

You will want to give up because you gave up on your relationships.

Not the toxic ones, but the relationships you really wanted and needed to have. Will giving up make that any better? Will giving up make you worthier?

You will want to give up because you gave up on your relationship with yourself, you gave up on your devotion to become the best version of yourself – no matter what.

Will giving up bring you closer to yourself?

You will want to give up because you never actually believed it was possible.

That’s probably because you never really needed to. You did have to wake up and get up and show up to doing it though.

You will want to give up because it didn’t even cross your mind that you could.

I don’t mean to trouble you, but until you have done it – you can’t.

You will want to give up because it looks easy.

Why bother, right? Well, if it’s so easy, why not do it in a fortnight instead of giving up?

You will want to give up because it’s actually really hard and it didn’t happen like you’d thought it would.

I will tell you something from experience. Just because the path is different, doesn’t mean the destination has to be.

You will want to give up because you don’t want to give up on your attitude.

The same attitude that had you fail over and over to get you to this point – of giving up. Did you mean you’re so attached to being a loser that you’d rather give up? Read that again if you need to.

You will want to give up because others have done it already and you can’t ever catch up.

Are you in it to catch up to anyone? Is this why you wanted to do it? Because other people had??

You will want to give up because you’d rather do something else.

Do you really though? Where would that other thing leave you? Is that a place worth going? Do you want THAT?

You will want to give up because the rules and the circumstances are against you.

If safety is more important to you, that’s fine. Just remember to remember what the safety you seem to want will do to you in time.

You will want to give up because you don’t have time.

Really? Seriously – really? What about all that stuff you make time for? Is that really more important? Is it worth it? What’s the endgame there?

You will want to give up because somebody doesn’t approve or nobody supports you.

You know… just don’t make me laugh.

You will want to give up because you’re not good enough.

If you’re good enough, it probably isn’t worth doing. Would you really want to do it if it wouldn’t make you more and better? Here’s a prediction for you. By the time you’re good enough for it, you will have your eyes on something else that you’re not “good enough” for.

You will want to give up because you want to do it your way.

If it doesn’t take you where you want to go, is it really your way though?

You will want to give up because your ego is bigger than who you are and you’d rather keep it that way.

Absolutely no-one can help you there.

You will want to give up because you’re in the habit of giving up when the going gets tough.

There’s only one way to get out of that habit.

You will want to give up because it could be so much easier.

Well, it’s not. What makes you think the easy thing you imagine would stay easy when the rubber hits the road?

You will want to give up because you’d be letting people down if you failed.

And you wouldn’t be letting them down if you let yourself down? What sort of people are you in with exactly? Why do you think of them as so inferior?

You will want to give up because you’ve lost the will to live.

Will you find it by giving up?

You will want to give up because it’s not fun anymore.

Is that why you wanted to do it in the first place?

You will want to give up because you have to do things that make you uncomfortable.

What’s more important – your comfort or what you really want?

You will want to give up because you might succeed, you might get exactly what you want – and then want it no more.

One way only to find out.

Understand.

You will always find reasons to give up. They might even be good. So write them down on a piece of paper, well as you can. Just don’t forget to put down next to them the reasons not to.

When you think about the costs, think about the costs of the alternatives as well.

Who will you Become if you give up? Who will you Become if you don’t?

No, this isn’t some reverse-psychology intimidation tactic. Both “winner” and “loser” are just lazy answers. Really think about it.

What’s the worst? What’s the best? What’s the in-between in each case?

Finally and always.

What do you really want?
